YL Essential Oils and Childbirth

Young Living Birthing Oils to use during Labor, Delivery, and Recovery.

~ The Everyday Essential Oils Kit ~

A good rule of thumb in labor is to always dilute your essential oils in a carrier oil before applying. Olive, Grapeseed Oil, or Coconut Oil are good options.

Oils – Valor, Peppermint, Frankincense, Lavender, Peace and Calming, Lemon, Joy, Stress Away, Purification, Thieves, and
Pan Away.

*Always keep oils on hand at the birth location so you don’t have to leave the space to look for the oil.

Peace and Calming- Well, its pretty obvious that this one helps mama (and birth attendants) to stay peaceful and calm during labor and delivery. This oil can be used almost interchangeably for these purposes. Great for diffusing 3 drops in purified water, as well as applying behind ears and on wrists and feet, and back to promote calmness and stop panic.

Lavender– Also helps to keep a calm atmosphere and mindset as well as being stimulating to the circulatory system, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory. In addition it is good for the perineum during delivery (and before and after-pretty much the entire childbearing year!). Diffuse or apply topically in a carrier oil. Avoid using it too early in labor though as it can slow things down if they aren’t well established.
– Lavender is a natural anti-histamine.
A wonderfully versatile oil with a gentle fragrance, is very helpful for dulling and easing uterine pain and for relieving back and leg pains. Lavender is also a calming oil that can relax you and ease nervousness. Use Lavender for massage, in compresses for the lower back and legs.
– Put 3 drops in a diffuser to cleanse and purify the air in the delivery room. Restores unbalanced states to a more harmonious state, and has been said to strengthen contractions once you are in active labor.
– Soak warm rags in 5 drops of Lavender
And apply to the belly during contractions to relieve uterine pain.

Valor– it helps with focus and helps you feel more “grounded”.
– Helpful throughout labor to boost moral and to help with body alignment, especially the hips. This is an extrememly helpful oil to use during transition and can be applied to the chest, feet, neck and base of spine. Give a 10 minute window or so around the application of this oil and the application of another.
– Apply Valor to back of neck, shoulders, feet, lower abdomen, lower back and hips as often as desired.
– Massage into the bottom of the feet to help with anxiety.
– Rub into shoulders to stay relaxed.

Frankincense– Use throughout labor in a diffuser with purified water to help maintain calmness and uplifted emotions. This oil is also terrific to dilute in a carrier and apply to the perineum as it has many skin supportive and regernative properties. This one is also fantastic for anointing baby with after birth, diluted in a carrier oil.
– During transition: Apply Frankincense to the belly and back in a carrier oil or soak rags in water and add 3 drops of Frankincense. Apply warm rags to belly and back to help with pain relief, calmness, and relaxation.
– Put a drop on thumb and apply to the roof of your mouth for headaches.

Pan Away– Can be rubbed on the belly in a carrier oil to help with pain management during labor.
