Okay THIS is a great one for Mother’s Day. I love doing fun activities like this with my kids, and this recipe is the BEST and easiest. Toss it in a zip-top bag when you’re done and it keeps for weeks. I actually like the texture of this better than the store-bought stuff. Yay!
Okay, here’s the recipe and full details from Amy Wadlington!
My daughter is working on a big school project and wanted to incorporate essential oils into her project so last night we got started and made some Peppermint Essential Oil Play Dough. She already has some made with Joy and later this week we’re going to make some with lavender and some with lemon. We’ve tried a few different recipes and this is by far the best one. So fun!
2 cups all purpose flour (we only have Pamela’s Gluten Free flour – it works too!)
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
10-12 drops essential oil (more or less may be needed depending on the oil you choose – peppermint took 20 drops)
1.5 cups boiling water
food coloring – optional
Mix the flour, salt, and cream of tarter together in a large bowl.
Combine your essential oil with the vegetable oil and mix into the dry ingredients.
Boil the water and add food coloring directly to water. (this is how we got the great color – if you try to mix by hand in the play dough the color isn’t as vibrant)
Pour 1 cup of your boiling water into the mixture and stir, adding the additional 1/2 cup slowly until desired consistency is reached.
Knead for 3-5 minutes or until dough is smooth and perfectly squishy for play…(I had to knead for the first few minutes – since we added boiling water to the mixture it was HOT).
